Caution: Female Space Marines a.k.a. FAIPA (female adventurer in powered armor) ahead!

For whatever reason female space marines seems to be a controversial subject among 40k players.

If you feel the need to rant and argue for or against female space marines, please go elsewhere to have your debate; I do not want this post to deteriorate into a pointless discussion.

I am well aware of why female marines aren't possible according to the fluff.  I started this project as an exercise in design and to practice my sculpting. I chose the subject matter because it seemed both challenging and intriguing to me personally.

Besides, I've been promising my friend that  I'd sculpt a unit of female marines for years  now. This one is for you, Massdriver :)

Enough with the preamble,  here's my work in progress so far.

Along with the narrower shoulder width and the higher waistline, they have noticeably feminine breasts on their chest armor to accentuate the female form. They are exaggerated on purpose to make them visually easier to distinguish from the  male marines.

While it's arguable whether it has any practical merit or not, from a character design standpoint, it doesn't  make much sense to design a female character in a sci-fi fantasy setting if they are going to look just like their male counterparts.

If you think sculpted breasts on chest plates are ridiculous, I'd like to point out that the Blood Angels'  Sanguinary Guards has sculpted pecs and decorative nipples on their breastplate ;)

I have a few clean up to do before I begin casting. I plan on completing a combat squad of female space marines using these. Though I doubt I'll ever actually use them for gaming.

I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed working on them.

  2. These look great! I just saw them on Dakka Dakka, and followed a link here! I think Female Marines should be a part of the fluff! I have been wanting to make an all female Guard Army for some time too. Your Scuplt-Fu is strong! Very impressive! Keep it up!

  3. Personally I like girls who kick ass and females look better in power suits anyway.

Your work is looking most excellent Corsair. I would expect nothing less from you. :)

  4. I'm probably a Warhammer 40k heretic (my minis are so modded I'm sure they aren't remotely league-acceptable), so I don't even see what the issue is with female space marines. If the official fluff doesn't allow for it, then the official fluff should be changed, really, because these are cool.

  5. Greetings,
In regardes to your FSM, I love them !!!
You have created a trully wonderful look and captured the feel of an Imperial FSM.
I was wondering if you have ever thought about having them reprodused and then sell them to non-fluff players.
I am quite sure there are many SM players who would love to have them in their armies.
I believe producing a series of Chaos Female space marine and Female Imperial Army (upper) bodies would not cause such a big outrage under the loyal fluff-ers and still give the non-fluff players a taste of something they've been wanting for some time.
I have had this idea for years but have not been able to find anyone to eather do the models in green stuff or a 3d animation (CAD) to have a 3d print produced.
Ideas are not the problem, bringing them from paper to reallity is, so my question to you is :
" Would you be interested in a joint venture to produce Female parts for warhammer miniatures" ?
    Thank you for your time,
and looking foward to your responce
    James

  7. Hi, beautiful models and a very interesting project. Also I am creating an army of Space Marines women " The morning stars " but converting some existing masculine pieces. If a day your pieces will be commercialized I would like to know if it is possible to purchase them. A regard

  12. It's not controversial. Female space marines don't exist because they can't. Females don't respond to the geneseed. It kills them actually.
There was a guy who did a work around for this, stating that his femarines were created by Fabius bile who pulled them off of a slaanesh planet in he eye of terror where the humans had gradually grown to be hermaphrodic and the females were all basically amazons, so it's doable. But any female space marines would be CSM's.

Don't count on the fluff to change either, as that would basically make the SOB's have no point and no one would play them which would be a huge shame.

    1. they can primarily be done as chaos marines, or even as one of the cursed foundings tainted by bile but are still loyal to the emperor like legion of the damned

theres no point making an entire army of femmarines.... but they could be thrown in squads just like other marines to spice the squads up a bit
